The idea behind this piece of work is to sketch and record the tension and fluidity of the two apparent opposites of order and chaos, in reaction with each other and then to document the catalytic result.
My aim with this project is to find the point where order and chaos are balanced in their respective proportions and to be able to physically paint this event onto a material.
The Capoeira players have their hands and feet loaded with paint, yet they are moving across the canvas using Capoeira movements in response to those of their opponent, unconcious of the marks that they are making. Another 'Capoeirista' will break into the game after a short time, as the paint on the hands and feet of the player they are replacing will be used up.
The actual paint effect is, on a wide view, very chaotic with different levels and densities of paint. However, viewing the resulting paintings in cropped sections gives the paintings a feeling of a little more order on recognising hand and foot prints. Every painting is entirely unique and it's form completely random.
The interplay and tension between 'ordered' and 'chaotic' states creates the energy of the performance and the intensity of the end product.
